1990s & 2000s - Meeting the Challenge of Recession

The recession of the late 1980s and early 1990s changed Canada’s economy, which began to move from resource industries and manufacturing towards information management. Niche markets and new technologies became of major importance.

Waterloo Region was well poised to take advantage of this new market and companies like Research in Motion, DALSA, Christie Digital and Com Dev were able to fill niche markets and create highly specific and globally competitive products.
